Mr. Girmee Sherpa, who is one ofthe few renowned literary figures ofSikkim, was born at Bhareng Busty, West sikkim onDecember 1, 1948. He had his early education at Ripdi School and later on did graduation in Bachelor of Arts from North Bengal University.
His first poem was published in 1956 when he was barely 8 years old in a forttly news and literarymagazine 'Kanchanjungha' edited and published by the Bhanu Purashkar Awardee Mr. Kashiraj PradhanofGangtok.He also functioned as Sub-Editor of'Muktaswar' published by Pelling ior SecondarySchool, West Sikkim in 1964. Under the able guidance and financial support of his grandherLate Nima Sherpa ofRipdi Busty he established "Hamro Pustakalaya" at Ripdi School in 1967.His tber of articles were published in news and literary magazines published from Sikkim, Dmjeeling,Assam,aras and Nepal. His articles ranged from poem, short stories to literary criticism. During his college days'as Co-Editor of'Zhilka" a monthly literary magazine published from Darjeeling. He was Advisor of~ghtly news paper "Jhataro" edited and published by Late Mr. Nubir Lucksom in 1968. He had spared no rts to rejuvenate Youths Library, Gangtok and its publication "Navjyoti" a leading literary magazine of om. The magazine was widely read in Sikkim, DaIjeeling, Assam, Dooars, Banaras and Nepal. He was one of the editors ofliterary monthly magazine "Pratibhimba" published by the editor themselves from 19tok in 1978. He was also one ofthe editors of"Smarika" literary collection published by Bhanu Salig an Samiti, Gangtok in 1981
Girmee Sherpa represented students ofDmjeeling Govt. College in various literary, social forum like al Bhasha Prayog Gare Samity then headed by Prof. Prem Sherpa Biroki, Organisation 'Nepali' headed Subash Ghising and was General Secretaries of a number of noted organisations and associations andmember of General Council ofSahitya Akademi, New Delhi, member of Nepali Advisory Board, Text k Committee of Government of Sikkim and was member ofIndian delegation of Joint Technical lndoal Boundary Committee in 1995. He had also worked as Reader for Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi for ction of Nepali writer for SahityaAkademiAward in particular year
He has two books to his credit namely (i) Bajo Din Mathi Palayiaka Kehi Phul Ham (ii) Hypo lanp-Gurash Ra Anya Kabita.Mr. Girmee Sherpa's outstanding contribution towards the promotion of Nepali language and liten been recognised by one and all. He was honoured with Sahitya Akademi award in 1991 for his t )ocrite Chanp-Gurash Ra Anya Kabita.
